Lunch with Guest Speaker Dr Mark Evans
Dr Mark Evans
The Business Club is delighted to announce that its speaker for February will be Doctor Mark Evans.
Mark, who lives in Skeffington, is a Palaeontologist and Geological curator who works for the British Antarctic Survey and is an Honorary Research Fellow at Leicester University.
Mark is a leading expert in extinct fossil marine reptiles of the Jurassic Period. Mark played a key role in the recent discovery of what has become known as the ‘Rutland Sea Dragon’. This huge 10-metre Ichthyosaur skeleton was discovered at the Rutland Water Nature Reserve. Dating back 180 million years, it is the most complete ever found in the UK. Mark was a core member of the excavation team and is very much involved in the remains’ ongoing preservation and eventual display.
Mark will talk to us about the Rutland Sea Dragon, the amazing geological forces that have shaped where we live and give us a fascinating insight into his work, the past 200 million years, and the prospects for the future of the project.
