The owner of a gardening business has landed an entrepreneur award.
Mark Batty, of Lawnscience Stamford, was named the Geoffrey Pointon Entrepreneur of the Year for 2023 by Rutland-based The Biz Club.
The award is named in honour of the club’s former president, and director of Uppingham First, who died in April 2020 in the early months of the Covid pandemic.
Applicants were judged by Rutland business minds, particularly on the difference the entries make in their community.
Mark had to go through an interview stage and then make a presentation at a club meeting in October where the winner was decided by a ballot.
Dr Sarah Furness, Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, and guest speaker Geoffrey Thompson, the former High Sheriff of Rutland, presented the award to Mark.
“I entered the award as I hoped it would help me to differentiate myself and my business in a crowded and competitive marketplace,” he said.
“I am delighted to have been awarded the prize and already some members have approached me to carry out lawn care services for them.”
As part of his prize, The Biz Club and Uppingham marketing business, and sponsor Quibble Digital are helping Mark to increase his online presence and have offered business mentoring.
